[16:33:01] Yeah, we do. There is also a flag SPDK_TEST_PMDK in autorun-spdk.conf [16:33:45] jimharris: I recently pared down the number of systems in chandler running the pmdk tests since almost every one was running them. [16:35:47] i'm adding a new SPDK_TEST_REDUCE flag for the "reduce" compression stuff and would like to proactively get that flag set on some test systems in both test pools [16:36:42] how does jenkins make sure that nvml_autotest (which should be renamed to pmdk_autotest) gets run on a system with libpmem installed? [16:37:16] i know fedora has packages, but i had to a bunch of special stuff to get a package on ubuntu - do you know if the ubuntu systems have libpmem? [16:38:12] jimharris: the bash magic we do on lines 38-62 of autotest_common causes new flags to default to on unless specifically turned off in the conf file. [16:39:19] jenkins has an nvml autotest job which creates an autorun_spdk.conf file that sets the SPDK_TEST_PMDK flag to 1 and then copies that into a machine to run autorun.sh [16:39:36] but what if that machine doesn't have libpmem? [16:40:22] or maybe all of the machines have libpmem - i was concerned about this because on ubuntu it's still a 'preview' package [16:40:39] jimharris: All the fedora ones have pmem. [16:41:06] jimharris: the ubuntu machines aren't in the rotation for the pmem job. [16:41:48] ah ok, so the nvml autotest job is tied to just a subset of specific machines [16:42:28] correct. Most of the tests run on fedora machines. There are specific jobs for each of the other distros [16:42:54] Centos7, ubuntu16, ubuntu17, freebsd. . . [16:43:33] If you want to add that flag, I can update the jenkins jobs to turn that flag off in those jobs. [16:45:07] You just have to give me the name its name. Will the reduce tests run the same way the crypto tests run? meaning as part of the bdev tests? [16:45:35] SPDK_TEST_REDUCE [16:45:56] for now, it's just some unit tests, it's not tied in to bdev or DPDK compressdev at all yet [16:47:00] peluse is working on the bdev shim around it [16:47:25] So does the flag control the compilation of the module? [16:47:38] yes [16:48:13] see https://review.gerrithub.io/#/c/spdk/spdk/+/430646/ [16:48:30] the 4 patches before this one start laying the groundwork for lib/reduce, but don't actually include libpmem.h [16:49:06] that URL points to the first patch that includes libpmem.h plus the configure flags, etc. to control compilation [16:49:24] gotcha. For now, I will just disable the flag in the non-fedora jobs. As we add more tests, we can disable it in the other jobs as needed and possibly add another job (if there are standalone system level tests) [16:49:45] well my scripts will automatically disable the flag if libpmem.h doesn't exist [16:50:49] i just want to make sure that no matter what, my unit tests will run [16:51:32] i.e. if the unittest job gets run on an ubuntu machine (is that possible?) then it just won't build or run the reduce unittests [16:54:05] the unittest job is services by a group of vms that all run fedora. So you are safe there. [16:54:10] *serviced [16:54:18] ok - perfect [16:55:09] and it looks like PS7 of your patch only failed on the freebsd test, so I think from that we can assume that the CentOS and ubuntu VMs have libpmem installed.
